The Other Side of St. Valentine’s Day

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about Valentine’s Day? There are two options, if you have a boyfriend or a girlfriend you probably thought of how would you like to spend this day, what you are going to give to that person, and probably thought of several clichés such as: flowers, chocolates, movies or a special dinner.

However, if you haven’t found that special someone yet, there are two more options, either you thought, “Whatever, I don’t have a boyfriend/girlfriend, this day will be like any other,” or you just got sad about it, telling yourself how depressing this day will be for you and how much you hate it. Then you are wrong!!!!!

What is this day all about? What has society turned it into? This day is called “The Love Day”. It is all about having a great time either with that special someone or with those special “someones” who you call best friends. To those who are worried about spending this day “alone” just because you don’t have a partner, let me tell you this: You have probably fallen into the whole idea that  marketing has turned Valentine’s Day into!! These days we see special offers like, “Romantic dinner for two”, “Spa day for two”, “Experiences for two”. Those advertisements lead people to think that all that matters is having a date.  First of all, you have to remember that love is found in all relationships, this doesn’t only imply having a significant other. Avoid thinking that if you don’t, then you will not have a good time because you also build relationships with friends and great people who you may even consider the brothers or sisters you don’t have and with whom you always have a good time no matter what.

Whatever the situation is, with whomever you decide to spend this day, be creative, be romantic, be spontaneous, break the expectations, think outside the box. We all deserve to have a great time, don’t let this day change your mood in any way. It might serve as a good reason to talk to that friend you have been missing, the one you haven’t talked to, maybe the one who had been calling you to go out last week and you didn’t have the time. Make some time on this day for friends because after all, they are always there for you 24/7, 365 days so yeah, they deserve your appreciation as well. Instead of staying home asking yourself why are you single, go out! After all, what’s the worst that could happen? Exactly, you might end up having an incredible time.
